(Alexandros Argyriou, literary historian, on the work of Ias. Depountis)

To mark the 20th anniversary of the passing of Iason Depountis, one of Greece’s most significant post-war poets, the Cultural Society ILIOSTASIO, in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Municipality of Athens, will hold an exhibition celebrating his life and work. Previously, the exhibition was displayed at the Old Fortress of Corfu from July 2024 to February 2025.

Iason Depountis is considered one of the most important Greek post-war poets. When he was forced to leave Greece in 1969, due to the imposition of the military dictatorship, he settled in Switzerland, where he lived until his death as an educator, poet, prose writer and translator. As an intellectual, he actively participated in the circles of the Greek diaspora. From 1985 until the end of his life he creatively divided his time between Zurich, Corfu and Athens.
